Kigelia

Kigelia

Clarifies the skin, tightening and firming, while reducing premature signs of aging, acne, eczema, psoriasis, and inflammation.

Source: Malawi
Harvesters: Tonga Community

The Kigelia Africana is otherwise known as the sausage tree. Its fruit, which resembles brown sausages, can grow up to two feet long and weigh 15 pounds. Traditionally, the extracts of this fruit have been used by Tsonga and Shangaan people from Southern Mozambique and North Eastern parts of Southern Africa. It’s versatility and impressive ability to clarify the skin, preventing and treating common skin issues, is why it has persevered as a coveted ingredient. Because of its high flavonoid and natural steroid content, the extract acts as an antioxidant and an antiinflammatory agent. And because of its richness in palmitic acid, Kigelia extract is also naturally antibacterial. It firms and uplifts the skin, while moisturizing and plumping.

Baobab

Baobab

Fights free radicals, improves skin tone and elasticity, restores the lipid phase, and regenerates cell walls.

Source: Limpopo
Harvesters: Venda Community

The majestic baobab tree is a symbol of life in the arid African Savannah, where little can thrive. The tree absorbs and stores water in its mammoth trunk, enabling it to produce a nutrient-rich fruit in the dry season, hence its name “The Tree of Life.” Baobab trees can live up to 5,000 years and take 200 years to start blooming and bearing fruits. Its flowers open at night once a year for a few nights only. A translucent golden oil is cold-pressed from Baobab seeds and is rich in essential fatty acids (omegas 3, 6 & 9), which help to restructure and regenerate skin cells walls. The oil also contains phytosterols, vitamin E and A. Baobab oil has been clinically proven to combat signs of aging, improve firmness, boost skin elasticity, reduce fine lines and even out skin tone. As a powder, Baobab has three times the antioxidant power of goji berries and ten times more vitamin C than an orange. It is also rich in a variety of minerals and vitamin A, B & E as well as essential amino acids, polysaccharides, and glycoproteins.

Omumbiri

Omumbiri

Imbues our formulations with a warm, woody, grounding scent with hints of lemon.

Source: Namibia
Harvesters: Himba Community

Commiphora Wildii, traditionally known as Omumbiri, has been used by the Himba tribe in the Kunene region of Namibia as perfume. Women there add it to their Otijize, a natural mix of butterfat and red ochre that keeps the skin nourished and protected from the sun. The Omumbiri tree grows in a desert where rain is rare but fog permeates the land from the sea every night. It exudes its sap naturally in springtime when temperatures begin to rise, making extraction easier without harm to the tree itself. In the same family as traditional sweet myrrh, Omomburi grounds our formulations with a signature scent that is truly transportive.

Sustainably hand-harvested.
